Data Management Plan Consultation Service

The RDC offers free consultations to help researchers develop data management plans

Do you need help writing a data management plan?

The IU Research Data Commons (RDC) offers free (up to) one-hour consultations to IU faculty to draft or refine data management plans (DMPs). We can help faculty adhere to best practices and make use of the many resources available at Indiana University.

RDC staff can assist at any stage, from developing an initial draft to providing detailed feedback on a completed plan.

How to get started

  1. Complete the form below, which will ask you about your funding call, your deadline, and any project summary or previous DMP draft you can provide.
  2. At the end of the form, there will be a link to schedule your consultation.  To ensure enough time for feedback, please schedule your meeting at least three weeks before the IU routing deadline for your proposal submission.

If your project is funded, you will be asked whether you are willing to allow the RDC to share your DMP with other IU researchers as a resource to help others in writing their own DMPs. Names will be removed, and you can request that any sensitive information be redacted. Sharing your DMP is appreciated, but optional. It is not a requirement to use this DMP service.

Consultations are available at no cost to faculty on all IU campuses. If you have questions, please contact iurdc@iu.edu. This account is monitored by RDC staff during business hours.

Please note: Meetings are transcribed for internal follow-up and deleted after 120 days. Transcripts are not shared outside the RDC Data Management Plan Service Team.
