How can I securely collect and store data from surveys?

IU provides several options for securely collecting and storing survey data, RCREDCapSecure web platform for self-managed data collection RC REDCap and Qualtrics. While these are possibilities, you are always encouraged to contact the providers of each of the resources to learn more about them and determine what options will work best, depending on the nature of your research. Surveys and structured data collection

RCREDCapSecure web platform for self-managed data collection RC REDCap is a widely used tool available at IU for collecting surveys and structured data. Hosted and supported by IU, REDCap allows for secure, web-based surveys with a wide range of customization options, including branching logic, consent forms, and longitudinal data tracking. It meets IU’s compliance standards for use with PHI and other sensitive data, and data entered into REDCap stays within IU's protected environment unless exported with appropriate safeguards in place.

RCQualtricsCloud based survey tool RC Qualtrics is a cloud-based survey tool that helps researchers create surveys and see the results. It can be used for data classified as Critical, including data containing information protected by FERPA and/or HIPAA.

RCThe Center for Survey ResearchState-of-the-art qualitative and quantitative research services RC The Center for Survey Research is a research unit that supports surveys and other quantitative and qualitative data collection. They have their own custom survey-programming tool to support complex and longitudinal web survey designs, as well as a sophisticated sample management system and an internally-developed, interactive, SQL-based interfaces, and telephone survey capabilities. CSR can also assist with designing, programming, and distributing data collection instruments, whether using their own custom system, REDCap, or Qualtrics for web surveys, or paper or mail surveys.
