What is Globus, and how can I use it to transfer large amount of data?
NewRCGlobusTransfer data between accounts on research supercomputers & research storage systems RC Globus Transfer data between accounts on research supercomputers & research storage systemsGlobus is a powerful and user-friendly tool for transferring large amounts of data between systems, including those at Indiana University and external institutions. It is particularly well-suited for research projects that involve high-volume datasets, such as imaging data, simulation outputs, genomic files, or any other data-intensive workflows. Unlike manual file transfers (e.g., via FTP or SCP), Globus handles large and complex transfers more efficiently, securely, and reliably.
At IU, Globus is already integrated with central storage systems, including Slate, Geode, and the Scholarly Data Archive, as well as with cloud services such as Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. It can also be set up on lab workstations or instrument control computers to automate data movement to central storage for backup or further analysis. This flexibility makes it ideal for both scheduled workflows and ad hoc transfers among collaborators.
